North America split phase solar installation

I live in US where we have split phase. There are two live wires and one neutral, each live is 120v to neutral.  Our feed from grid is split phase.

I have a split phase solar PV system that connects to a sub panel in my garage, which is a separate building.

I plan on creating a new place in the cloud app and using two wem3080T meters. I will use only the A and B connections. I will configure the meter in the main house as Grid, and the meter in the garage as an Inverter

I have already used a WEM3080T to measure load in another split phase application and it works very well.

My question is, are there any issues using the two individual meters, as long as they are properly configured as Grid and inverter?

Hi,
I think your situation is like this https://www.iammeter.com/docs/wiring-diagram#3-three-phase-solar-pv-system
The difference is you only need to use two-phase in one WEM3080T for the split-phase measurement.

You can add two energy meters in one place, one meter type is "grid" while the other is "inverter".
The only possible problem is that they are two devices that can not be synchronized absolutely.
They will have a maximum of 1min phase difference.
The IAMMETER will calculate the load power via the reading of two energy meters by such a formula.

Load power = inverter power + grid power
For example:
when inverter power =2kw
grid power = -2kw (mean it is exporting energy to grid)
Then the load power = 0 kw.

But because of the synchronized problem,
The inverter power = 2kw (read at the time of 0:0:1)
the grid power = -3kw (read at the time of 0:0:59, at this time the inverter power is already 3kw).
Then the load power will be displayed -1kw in IAMMETER.
This problem usually happens when the power is varying a lot in a short time.
Of course, the load power is just a display in IAMMTER, it will not affect anything else. You can also close the display of the load power.

Yes, the three phase diagram is what I am planning, minus  the C tap.

I had considered the time difference in sampling and reporting.  My intended use would be over a one month period, so any difference would be minimal

I have already installed a WEM3080T to measure the load on a sub panel where there are two geothermal heat pumps, a circulating pump, and how water heater. That is in its own "place".  That has been working well.

One feature that would be nice to have is the ability to not display the  C leg when using a WEM3080T in a split phase , two circuit application.

Hi:
When you add another meter with meter type of "inverter" in the same place, the UI view will change to the solar pv monitoring solution mode.

like this https://www.iammeter.com/applications/solar-pv-system-monitoring

There will be no split-phase A,B, and C power display in the overview page.
The system will sum the two phase grid power together and show it as the feed in power in the UI view.
This logic is also the same on the inverter side(sum the two phase to get the inverter power).

if you want to check the details data, you can also check them in the "history record" in IAMMETER , in the form of graph or data table mode.

Thank You,,,I need to order one more WEM3080T.  Unfortunately, my panels are covered with SNOW today!

OK, if you are in the USA, recommend ordering it in our amazon store.

And so appreciate it if you can also leave some comments there.

I do not know why It is so hard for us to get comments on amazon.😭
