What do I need to measure installation with 3 phases from the grid and a solar installation

Hi,

Relatively noob guy here 🙃

I live in a part of Belgium where we have a special 3 phases grid (at least in my street): it is 230V three wires without neutral. Each phase is 110V. I know this is rather peculiar, "normal" three phases would be 400V three wires + neutral, but it is what it is..
I also have a solar panels installation.
I have ordered the WEM3080T, but i am wondering how to wire it to measure both grid and PV ? Or should I use this unit to measure the 3 phases from the grid, and use an additional WM3080 to monitor the PV ?

Thnx a lot for any advise. As said I'm not a great electrician, maybe my question makes no sense?

Hello Jiheffe:

This is a good question.

There are two types of 3phase systems, WYE connection(3L+Neutral) and Delta connection(3L without Neutral).
Unfortunately, WEM3080T only work for the WYE connection system.

I know some of the areas in Belgium are still using the Delta connection system.
We have another model WEM3080TD, which is a 3-phase energy meter for the Delta connection system, but it can only be shipped from China(No stock in the Warehouse in Germany).
I note you have ordered a WEM3080T from our official store.

There are two options now,
1 we ship one WEM3080TD from China to you, it would also free shipping. But you need to clear the customs by yourself (paid an extra customs tariff of around 22%) when it arrives at the customs of Europe.
2 we refund directly.

As far as we know, the Delta systems in Belgium is upgrading to the WYE system in recent years.
Maybe after not long time ,your system would be upgraded to WYE connection ,then the WEM3080T would work well .

Hi Laoliu,

That's good news (and you raised my knowledge about electricity 😅).
So yes, let's proceed with the
WEM3080TD shipped from China. Two questions though:

1/ Apparently these is no product page for the WEM3080TD. Do you have any example diagrams etc... ?

2/ Will I still need a second unit, like a WM3080, to monitor the PV ?

Hi:

Please let me know, whether the solar PV inverter is 3phase or 1phase.

And if it is 1phase, have its output connected to two L lines?

Hi, the inverter is a Fronius IG 40. AFAIK, it is 1 phase and seems to be connected to the main cabinet with 2 lines (the breaker is two lines) + earth.

Anyway the WEM3080T has shipped, I guess I can still use it for one phase even it is overkill? And order a WEM3080TD from your China store?

Hello, sorry, my colleague mistaken to operate your order. The meter has not been shipped yet. We will still ship you a WEM3080TD from China but you will need to pay import VAT. If you are OK with paying import VAT, please send us your VAT No. We will ship it as soon as we get your feedback.

Thank you!

Hi,

Which mail address should I send you my VAT info?

Also my understanding is that with the WEM3080TD I will monitor the grid side. Should I order a WEM3080 for the PV side?
I have a Fronius IG 40 inverter which is 1 phase. Tt has one L and one N on the AC side.

Hi:

This sketch map is correct. If you want to monitor both grid and solar ,you need an extra WEM3080.

When the product arrives at the customs of Europe, the express would contact you for the VAT payment

Would this make sense ?

Hello again,

Sorry, I forgot to tell you that you can send your VAT No. by email to support@devicebit.com, thanks!

Great 😀

I just sent you my VAT info. I will orderv ther WEM3080 separately via your European wenshop.

Hi,

The WEM3080TD module arrived today. The module is marked WEM3080T, but the labels on top do not include a UN so I guess it is indeed a WEM3080TD.

I have some questions on wiring, see image below.
I planned to put a cabinet with sufficient place for:
- WEM3080 + 2xbreaker => 4 modules
- WEM3080TD + 3xbreaker => 6 modules

=> so 10 modules in total.

But if I follow the example below, I may only need a cabinet for the two modules WEM3080 and WEM3080TD. Right?

Hi:
1 yes, if there is no UN just Ua,Ub and Uc, it must be WEM3080
2 yes, the breaker is just an optional, not a must.

3 the meter needs a very low power supply, so even the tel cable is enough.

4 Yes, if the clamp of the CT is closed correctly, it would be OK.
Even if the cable through the CT is slim

Hi,

Thnx a bunch for your swift answers 😎
I guess I have all set up and running, have first data coming in. Let's see after a couple of days how it looks !

Next step will be Home Assistant integration 😀

One small point: the clamps are really big, I had trouble to find a place in the cabinet to place them... Guess a smaller form factor would be helpful!
